Pause for a moment. Imagine you’re at your favorite diner and you just ordered large basket of French fries. Along with the food, the server also brings along a glass bottle of ketchup. Flexible valves were ingeniously designed to avoid this situation. The simple reason liquids get stuck is because of the vacuum created as the liquid begins exit the container and air cannot move inside to balance the transfer.
What Makes Flexible Valves So Useful?
Replacing glass with plastic bottles essentially fixed the problem of typically trapped product, but left other obvious issues unresolved. One of the most immediately attractive features of the plastic bottle was that squeezing would immediately release the contents. People were amused with product on demand until quantity was running low. Yet, when opening upside down bottles lacking a flexible valve, a high amount of the product immediately exits creating a potentially messy situation. Plus, no one likes their fries swimming in ketchup, do they? Other issues, like dried product accumulating around the edge of the opening almost always result in the absence of a flexible value to completely pull any unused material back into the bottle.
And so, out of convenience was born the need for a flexible valve that could securely hold in a bottle’s contents from any position, but easily release product when squeezed. With this, the flexible valve was born.
